Windy 20

The rain had cleared but the wind was coming in. I have never been on a bike in such windy conditions. At one point during a gust I felt my front tire slide over. The wind sock at the airport typically is my indication of how bad the wind is on my rides. Today it was at full mast.

Reach the Beach

Well my first official century is in the books. It was 104 miles from Portland to Pacific City. It was a great day. The weather warmed into the 70's. I was able to ride the whole thing with an average speed of over 16 mph. I also hit 43.5 miles an hour going down one hill. Reed drove down to meet me at the end of the ride and had the truck all decorated for the celebration!

Fast 30

Since I was feeling good after the century yesterday I decided to go for a ride and really push myself. I did 30 miles at 17.5 MPH. This is the fastest I have ever done a ride of this length. I feel I am getting stronger and starting to get my nutrition right while riding.

FIRST CENTURY!!!

Today I did my first century!!! It was the the last Reach the Beach training ride. I took it pretty easy but did pull for 15-20 miles. I am surprised at how good I felt after the ride. Next Saturdays Reach the will be harder with over 2000 more feet of climbing.

It has been awhile

Well it has been awhile. After vacation in Mexico I got back and did a 80 mile ride and hurt my knee. I was not able to ride for the next week because I was watching our dog Otis while Reed was out of town. I was able to get in a 30 and 40 mile ride.

3 X 40 = 120 miles this week

I rode 40 miles Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I had great weather all three days. I even got to ride in shorts and short sleeves a couple days. It is nice to to be able to head out after work a ride 40 miles before dark. These rides take about 2.5 hours I got a flat tire 2 days so that adds 10-15 minutes. I also stop a couple times each ride to eat. During a 40 mile ride I will burn 1500-1700 calories. I try to eat at least half of that during the and before the ride. I drink carb loaded energy drinks and supplements. I also like to add a Reese's peanut butter cup or a Little Debbie's Nutty Bar. The rest of the calories are ofter consumed in the form if chocolate ice cream before bed. ;-)

Check out a map of the ride HERE. Hit the Watch course fly by video.
