First training ride

What a great day for my first training ride today. It was a little cold but the sun was warm on my bright white legs that have not seen the sun in months. It was just 15 miles but my legs were already sore from CrossFit last night. I went down to Marine Drive on the Columbia river. The head wind was a major battle. The American flag and the wind sock at PDX were at full mast. I typically do this as a 20 mile out and back but for my first ride I only did 15 miles. That might be the reason I broke 16 MPH. I typically cannot do that. Maybe all the riding to the gym and CrossFit have helped me get in shape.

I started this blog to track the progress on my journey to do 3 centuries (Ride 100 miles in a day) and another long ride in WA. The first century will be in 3 months. It is the Reach the Beach ride. It is from Portland to Pacific City on the coast of Oregon. The next will be STP (Seattle to Portland) It is a two day ride from Seattle to Portland. Each day is about 100 miles. The third and most exciting ride is the Courage Classic. It is a 3 day ride. The full distance is 170 miles but each day has 3000 to 4000 feet of uphill climbing.

With all the training and rides I expect to have between 2000 and 3000 miles behind me before the end of the summer . Not bad for a guy that spend 3 years on crutches with Legg Perthes. I have my bike fitted and I am ready to get in the best shape of my life and show that turning forty does not need to slow you down,
