69 miles on Sauvie Island to Scappoose
I have been to Sauvie Island many time but I never knew it was so big. Sauvie offers great views of Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams. It also has great views of the Willamette River and several wild life reserves that attract lots of migratory water foul and bird watchers. The island also has many small local farms, nurseries, kennels, horse stables. After finishing 45 miles on the island I headed north to the towns of Scappoose and St. Helens. As I was getting on the bridge back onto the island I wanted to grab a couple pictures. I did not make the turn sharp enough. I got my front tire caught in the expansion joint getting on the bridge. I went down pretty hard and have the road rash to prove it.
